Project Details

American Design, Inc., (ADI), is the local supporting Architect for this new terminal project at General Mitchell International Airport. The following is edited from the project’s schematic design report prepare by Architectural Alliiance, the project’s lead consultant: “General Mitchell International Airport (GMIA) includes a main terminal building supporting two operating concourses, Concourses C and D. A third concourse, Concourse E, has been decommissioned and will soon be demolished.

The new International Arrivals Concourse with Federal Inspection Service (FIS) facility will replace Concourse E and connect to the south side of the existing terminal building. The new concourse includes two swing gates with passenger boarding bridges serving both international and domestic arrivals and departures. One gate is capable of servicing larger widebody aircraft. The concourse level will have a dedicated security screening checkpoint, gate hold areas, passenger amenities, support spaces, and a small concession area. The FIS Facility is located on the ground level of the concourse.

Also located on the ground level, but separate from customs and border patrol spaces, are various building support functions including the switchgear and generator infrastructure.” ADI is supporting the design and development of the new facility in a collaborative process. ADI worked closely with Alliiance to provide technical drawing and documentation, site verification, and project coordination services throughout all phases of design. ADI will play a major role in construction administration services with construction scheduled for 2025.
